How Does a Suction Former Tissue Machine Work?

  • Headbox and Pulp Introduction: The procedure begins in the headbox, where a pulp and water suspension (99.5% water, 0.5% fibers) is uniformly spread on the machine to achieve the right order of fibers.
  • Suction Former and Water Removal: The suction former employs suction rolls and vacuum boxes in order to withdraw water from the pulp. Thus, a tissue sheet is formed with approximately 25% dryness while achieving proper drainage and even distribution of fiber.
  • Pressing for Increased Dryness: Water is removed from tissue sheets using suction or shoe presses, achieving a dryness of 40-47%, whilst maintaining the strength and bulk of the tissue.
  • Yankee Dryer for Final Drying: The Yankee dryer, along with the high-velocity air from the Yankee hood, dries the tissue sheets by extracting moisture in preparation for winding.
  • Uniformity and Quality Control: Maintaining tissue quality as well as providing a clean environment is achieved through advanced guide vanes, mist control and vacuum systems.
  • Winding and Final Product: Once the tissue sheet is dried, it is softened and bulked up by being creped off the Yankee dryer. It is then rolled onto a reel, which is processed into several different products, such as kitchen towels or toilet paper.
